Division Math Game Ideas

One of the best objects to use for motivating students to eagerly learn division is food. You can teach them basic division concepts by using a big cookie cake. A pizza cutter can be used to divide the cake into four, eight, twelve, and so on.

It is also a good idea to give each of the students a piece of smaller food item, such as a loaf of bread or a slice of cheese, and ask them to divide it into their desired number on their own using a plastic knife, not a real knife that could hurt them. If a student is able to do the division correctly, reward that student by allowing him to eat the food.

Another type of division game may allow students to move around inside the classroom. You can set up the room to conduct an interactive board game. Divide your students into groups and ask them to line up in front of a clear area, on one side of your classroom.

How many members each team has depends on the size of your class, though you need to make sure that all teams have the same number of members. The students are given a mathematical problem, for example 32 divided by 8. They need to give the correct answer to the question quickly, as the first group to answer gets the chance to jump four spaces forward, since the answer to the problem is “4”. The first group to cross the line wins the game.
